People Pleasing?

“Givers need to set limits because takers rarely do.”
~ Rachel Wolchin

Life can be so bloody difficult sometimes.

That feeling that you’re doing your absolute best, but nobody else even notices.
Then you start asking yourself ‘why am I even here?’, ‘Who the hell am I?’, ‘What am I doing?’.

These thoughts and feelings are so draining. It’s exhausting trying to please, then they don’t even take the time to notice how hard you’ve just worked.
Yes, the task probably seems like nothing, but you’ve just given it your best effort, you gave it your personal touch, you tried to make it special, and they just glance over it without even batting an eyelid, and then gradually over time, you begin to feel like a ghost. And, to make things worse, you replay this scenario, over and over, in your mind.. making yourself feel even worse, day in, day out. It’s awful.

You feel invisible. You feel like nothing. I know exactly how this feels, and it’s not nice.

But, how do you overcome these horrible feelings?
Well, you can start by demanding respect from those who are meant to care for you. It’s not a lot to ask, is it? Manners cost nothing. Whether it’s from your kids, your partner, your colleagues, your boss. Whoever it is, insist on receiving the same level of grace that you show to them. That’s fair, right?

Or

You can show them how to treat you, by treating yourself to extremely high standards!

One thing I have learnt from my own experience is that people treat you at a level that you allow them to, and they tend to treat you at a level that you treat yourself.

If you respect yourself fully, then you wouldn’t allow others to make you feel so low, and you certainly wouldn’t give others so much power over your emotions.
If you care for yourself, speak kindly about yourself, treat yourself with kindness and compassion, you teach others that that’s the level they should care for you too, and nothing less.

And, this is what worked for me! Things had to change.. I was making myself ill.

I made a decision to heal my inner wounds.
I started on a journey of self-discovery, to find out why I wasn’t respecting myself fully.
I went inside, did my research, apologised to myself, changed the way I felt and thought about myself, and changed my behaviours.
I elevated my thinking, so I could no longer feel the hurt, and I suppose you could say that I gave myself an emotional upgrade.
I decided to treat myself exactly how I treat others, with complete love, compassion and respect.

And you can do this too! Right now, starting from today.

Take a moment.. 🧘‍♀️ Close your eyes and answer these questions as honestly as you can:
~ When you think about YOU, what words are you saying?
~ Hand on heart, how do you feel about YOU?
~ If you dig deep, what could YOU change today?

Are you able to answer these questions honestly? Are you receiving answers that are less than positive? Could you use the advice above to change how you feel about yourself?

Please, don’t allow yourself to be on the side lines anymore, you’ve worked hard to get to where you are today. And please, speak up and demand to be treated fairly, you absolutely deserve the very best, just like everybody else does.

I truly understand that feeling of being invisible, but all it takes is for you to change your mind about what you tolerate, and give yourself permission to feel confident, happy and alive again.
